Most Chimney Problems Start Small

A cracked crown or a missing cap lets water straight into the stack. Left through a few Carolina winters it stops being a cheap fix and starts taking the brickwork with it.

• Crown resealingThe crown is the concrete slab across the top of the stack. Hairline cracks let water sit in the masonry, freeze and widen them. We clean it back and reseal it.
• Cap replacementA missing or rusted-through cap is an open invitation for rain, leaves, squirrels and birds. We fit a stainless cap sized to your flue.
• Liner repairThe liner keeps heat and gases inside the flue and away from the house timbers. Cracked tiles or an open joint is the problem you cannot see from the room.
• Leaks & water damageStains on the ceiling beside the chimney breast, damp on the wall, a musty smell after rain — all point at water getting in up top. We find where, and tell you what it takes.
• Flashing & brickworkThe seal where the stack meets the roof is the other common leak. We check it while we are up there, on the same visit.
